Tassili Cafe
Djanet Opened Opening date unknown
Where desert guides stop for tea before sunrise.
Tassili Cafe opens absurdly early for a reason. Desert convoys headed into the Tassili often leave Djanet before sunrise, and this is where guides and drivers stop for tea and coffee on their way out. It sits in Efri, right on the road that runs through the neighborhood, and stays open until 8:30 at night.
The menu is short: mint tea, coffee, pastries, a few light dishes. But the reviews are close to unanimous, 4.9 out of 5 from around a hundred people, a rare number for a cafe in a town this size. Locals and tourists both show up.
Good to know
- Opens at 3:30am, useful if your desert trip leaves before sunrise.
- Order the mint tea, it's what the regulars come for.
