Our story · since 2026

The feel of somewhere new.

A guide to places that have just opened: logged by hand, each one with the date it opened. We started in Breda in 2026 and have been adding cities ever since.

no·vo

/ˈnoː.voː/ from Latin

From novus: new. It sets the rule for everything here: a place is listed because it opened recently, and every entry carries the date that it did.

vibe

/vaɪb/ noun, informal

The atmosphere of a place; what it feels like the moment you walk in. That is the part no opening date can tell you, so we write it out for every address instead.

no·vo·vibe

/ˈnoː.voː.vaɪb/

The feel of somewhere new: the short stretch after opening when nothing is worn in yet and nobody has told you what to make of the place. That is the stretch we keep track of, in 1,419 cities.

Why we started

We live in Breda. In 2026 we wanted to know what had opened in town that month, and there was no way to find out. The information existed (on a venue's own Instagram, in a line in the local paper, in something a friend mentioned in passing) but never in one place, and almost never with a date on it. Two weeks after an opening it was already hard to retrieve.

So we started writing it down ourselves, one address at a time: Breda first, then the cities around it, then every city we could cover properly. Novovibe now follows 25,726 places in 1,419 cities across 157 countries, and every one of them was added by hand.

How a place gets on the site

There is no algorithm behind this. Every entry goes through the same four steps.

  1. 1 We hear about it: an announcement on the venue's own account, an item in the local news, a licence application, paper going up in the windows of an empty unit.
  2. 2 We check it: the address, the website, the social account and above all the opening date. If we cannot confirm those, the place waits rather than going up half-right.
  3. 3 We write it up in your language: what kind of place it is, what it feels like to walk into, what it is good for. The photographs come from the venues' own accounts and stay theirs.
  4. 4 It goes live: as an announced opening while the date is still ahead (74 of those right now), and as a new opening once that day arrives.

What counts as new

The opening date is the spine of the site. It decides the order of every list, and a place we cannot date gets no entry at all. That single rule keeps out most of what fills other guides: the institution of thirty years' standing, the chain branch nobody can date, the venue that has been "new" for six years.

16,067 of the 25,726 places here opened since the start of last year, 7,017 of them this year. Older ones stay (somewhere that opened three years ago is still worth your evening) but the top of every list is always the newest thing we know about.

What we don't do

  • Nobody pays to be listed. There are no sponsored entries, no advertising slots and no way to buy a better position. If that ever changes, it will say so on this page.
  • We don't score places or set them against each other. Lists run by opening date, so the newest thing is simply first.
  • We don't guess. If an address, a date or an account cannot be verified, we leave it out instead of filling the gap with something plausible.

Where we are now

25,726 places, 1,419 cities, 157 countries, 4 languages: restaurants and lunch spots, bars, breakfast and brunch places, shops, cultural venues and hotels. Each language is written out on its own rather than run through a translator, because the description of a room does not survive a literal translation.

A city only goes live once there is enough in it to be worth the detour; we would rather show you nothing for a city than five thin entries. That is also why the map fills in unevenly: we go where we can check things properly.

Want to put a new place on Novovibe? That has a page of its own: quicker than writing to us, and it lands straight in the queue.
