Indonesian cafe on Perth's busiest eating strip

Bakoel does Indonesian food cafe-style on Albany Highway, right where Vic Park's dining strip gets busiest. It's cheap, quick, and stays open through the afternoon lull when everywhere else shuts the kitchen.

The WA Good Food Guide flagged it among the year's new Perth openings. Good sign for a spot this unassuming.

The most authentication Indonesia food must try at Bakoel Victoria Park, Perth. All the food delivered delicious as we ate in Indonesia. Especially Emie Medan, es cendol-nangka, gado2, nasi kuning, nasi campur, all were delicious. Must eat at Bakoel VicPark.

We visited for lunch and ordered the Ayam Penyet with rice, Sate Lontong, fries (a must!), Hot Teh Tarik, and I also couldn't resist trying some dishes from the bain-marie selection. One thing I really liked was their lunch set concept - you can customise your meal depending on what you're craving. Want more protein? Add an extra meat dish. Prefer more vegetables? Add a vegetable side. It's simple, practical, and offers great variety. For my set, I chose rice with Beef Rendang, Dendeng (smashed beef with chilli), and Cassava Leaves. Everything was absolutely delicious and tasted incredibly authentic. The flavours were rich, comforting, and reminded me of home-style Indonesian cooking. The standout dish for me was the Sate Lontong- tender, flavourful, and paired perfectly with the peanut sauce. My husband's favourite was definitely the sambal, which says a lot considering he asked for extra. The only downside I found - no high chair for babies. However, we visited right at opening when the restaurant was quiet, so we were able to bring our stroller inside for our 9-month-old without any issues. Thankfully, she was well-behaved and happy to sit in the stroller throughout our meal. Overall, if you're looking for authentic Indonesian food without the fuss, Bakoel is well worth a visit. Delicious food, generous portions, and genuine flavours make this a place we'll happily return to.

The food from the bain marie (beef rendang and the casava leaves) was good. The gado gado was good. Iga Bakar / Grilled Beef was very very chewy and not that nice. The prices are more on the premium side. HINT : If you order a main course you can ask for a complimentary cup of tea. If you don't ask you won't get.

The Sop Buntut that I remember having at Spencer Village, Thornlie a few years ago was really good. Not disappointed at all. Yum. A delicious broth and the oxtail meat literally fell of the bone. Reasonable serve. Perfect comfort food as we head into winter. A bit pricey at $26, $30 if you add rice but definitely a treat to enjoy now and again. My friend said her Soto Betwai was beautiful and having tried a spoonful of the broth I'd have to agree. The red sambal was also good. Warm helpful service.
