Italian-American deli on Sydenham Road
The mortadella sandwich is the reason to go, and it usually sells out by mid-afternoon. Berta's stacks its shelves with tinned goods and cures meat by the gram, deli-style, in a spot that feels lifted from an old-school Italian-American counter.
It sits on an industrial stretch of Marrickville, so bring a car or budget time to walk. The sandwich menu stays short on purpose.

One of the best pastrami sandwiches I’ve ever had. Loaded with flavour, well balanced, and perfectly sauced. Every bite was a win. I’ll definitely visit again next time I’m in Marrickville.

The veganised (vegan mayo and no swiss cheese) Fennel two ways w/grape compote, chilli mayo, pickled fennel, rocket $17 was amazing! The bread was crispy and soft, tasty grape compote, and chilli was warming but not spicy, very impressed. Great service as well!

Excellent sandwiches! Tried the chicken schnitty, rare beef and wagyu beef. They all had a generous serving of meat and different sauces and spreads that really added to the flavour of the meat. There isn't a lot of seating but easily packaged for take away.

Fabulous cafe! We thoroughly enjoyed our sandwiches. Also chefs kisses for the sauce that goes with your hashbrown!
