Bonjuk

Korean rice porridge for every hangover

Bonjuk does one thing: juk, Korean rice porridge, in heavy stone bowls with a plate of pickles on the side. It's hangover food, sick-day food and a cheap dinner all at once.

The chicken version is the everyday order. The abalone juk costs about double and is worth trying once. Doors stay open late enough to catch the post-karaoke crowd in Haymarket.

Delicious congee and lots of flavours to choose from. Decent size so come hungry. I love the accompanying items that gives you a variety of flavours and texture to the meal.

Got the double abalone sauce juk and it was delicious! It tasted just like the juk I had in Seoul, which was a lovely surprise. Warm, creamy and comforting, it was the perfect meal for a cold, rainy Sydney day and left me feeling wholesome and restored afterwards.

The ultimate comfort food! Delicious, flavourful juk, complete with side dishes and green plum tea to aid digestion. We ordered the abalone juk and the traditional red bean flavour, both were delicious and heartwarming on a winter's day.

Great food and generous serving sizes. You may think 22+ for congee is expensive but it definitely is alot Honestly light on the stomach filling and homey. Bright overhead lighting but a hearty meal

The food here is absolutely amazing! I’ve been here twice now, and it’s so good that I just had to leave a review. On my first visit, I tried the oyster and mushroom porridge, which was incredibly delicious. The second time, I had the kimchi seafood porridge, and it was just as perfect. Every dish is served piping hot, which is absolutely comforting and perfect for the chilly Sydney weather right now. The flavor is top-notch. I’ve tried instant versions and tried making it myself, but nothing compares to this place! The atmosphere is lovely, though the shop is a bit small, so the seating is limited and you might have to wait in line for a bit. But trust me, it is 100% worth the wait! On top of that, the staff are super sweet and lovely. Highly recommended!
