Order the garlic prawns. At 15 reais they're the dish everyone at Barrio ends up repeating, and the bill won't sting.
Right by the Mercado Eufrásio Barbosa at the base of the hill, this doubles as a café by day and a bar at night, with a couvert of 15 to 20 reais depending on who's playing. Fuel up here before the walk up into the historic centre.

Barrio Café and Bar offers the right atmosphere for people looking for friendliness and livelihood, a reasonably good variety of foods and good beverages. The venue favors cultural activities such as local music and sometimes folkloric presentations. Needless to say, the service is very good. Highly recommended.

The most budget-friendly option we found in Olinda, and also the best meal we had! I wish we found the place earlier so we could have time to come back! The pasteis were amazing!

Came for dinner somewhat late on a Tuesday night. Super quiet, rainy, 2-3 regulars having their drinks. Amazing atmosphere even then, would love to be here with a crowd and try other dishes. The fried tilapia with salad, rice and mashed potato was brilliant. The jars with pickled red chillies added a fabulous spicy touch. Nice!

A really bustling and loud restaurant, I had the goat stew as they'd run out of pork. Food was plentiful and tasty - there's not much choice in Olinda, but this is a solid one.

Had a meal here on our arrival in Olinda, lovely cosy restaurant, local food and good prices. Food was delicious, we had the stew, very tasty. Lovely view of the neighbouring streets too. www.thehungrytravellers.blog
