The region's leatherwork and craft traditions, under one roof
The Complexe Artisanal de Maroua sits on Rue de Camp Sic and gathers the region's craft traditions in one place: leatherwork, decorative sculpture, bags, belts, sandals, and furniture pieces like poufs. All of it is made by local artisans. It is the more organized counterpart to the city's older artisan quarters.
The tanners' district and the regional craft village at Palar predate it, but CAM offers one stop for visitors short on time. Leather and textile crafts here trace back to the Kanuri and Hausa trading communities that shaped Maroua through the 19th century.
Good to know
- Leather goods and poufs are the standout craft here.
- A faster alternative to browsing the full artisan market.
