The chef behind Mallard Cottage's later second room
Todd Perrin of Mallard Cottage runs Rabble on Water Street. Hours run later than most kitchens downtown, a full menu from opening through the evening built for people who eat on a schedule other restaurants have already given up on.
Winter hours are 2pm to 11pm Tuesday through Thursday and later at weekends, closed Sunday and Monday. Walk-ins are taken, no reservation needed to get a seat.

This place is excellent…there is attention to details with food, ambiance, and service. Very accommodating for dietary needs such as gluten free and dairy free. We shared the scallops, and had the cod and pork belly tacos for dinner. Scallops and cod were perfectly cooked and the tacos came with the best fresh tortillas. Many well balanced cocktails too - would recommend this farm to table type of restaurant experience to anyone - whether for a fancy occasion or a tasty night out.

Fantastic service with excellent food and cocktails, nice decor, and a relaxed atmosphere. The meal was a highlight of a recent trip to Newfoundland. I'm a Toronto local, and I've been to my fair share of higher-end restaurants, and I can confidently say Rabble can go toe-to-toe with some of my favourites. I visited with my partner, and our server was amazing. Extremely attentive, personable, and helpful, in deciding on both what dishes and cocktails to have that suited our tastes. We started with the scallops that were on special as our appetizer. For our mains, one of us had the lobster gnocchi, also on special, and the other had the pork belly, with an order of dinner rolls for the table. All the dishes were delicious. The cocktails were also excellent, especially after being disappointed with the cocktails from another place we tried. Slurred Word and Ebony & Apricots were definitely the stand out cocktails for us. The only negative we could think of is that we wished there had been just one more scallop in the appetizer, making it an even four so we each could have had two scallops. Other than that small complaint, it was a terrific meal. We would absolutely return if we ever make it back to St. John's.

The food is too die for. The chef has the secrets of the flavors to enhance any dish. The gnocchi was the highlight of the night. Scallops were cooked perfectly and the sauce was chefs kiss 💋. We will definitely be back on our next culinary adventure on the island. One of the best meals in nfld

The best spot in town, hands down. We always have the best time - staff are phenomenal, food is phenomenal, vibes are phenomenal. Whenever we miss the Toronto food scene, we head to Rabble for the ever-revolving menu of delights and the welcoming, unpretentious atmosphere. They never fail to deliver on a delicious and memorable evening. Go to Rabble. You won’t regret it.

The food and the staff were great! Rabble has a very intricate interior which added a good vibe and coziness to the place. It was a very relaxing lunch after a dreadful morning of walking around town. They also do offer light meals if you’re just passing by for drinks.
