Sardinian coffee habits on Kuninkaankatu

Karalis took over the old Kahvipuu spot on Kuninkaankatu in 2025, and the Sardinian founders didn't try to erase what was there before. Espresso and tea share equal space on the menu, a mix they call more habit than concept.

It stays open later than most independent cafes in the area, running into the evening on weekdays. Warm colors and a quiet room replace the exposed concrete look that's taken over so many new cafes downtown.

In my opinion, this is the best place for espresso in Tampere. They offer a wide selection of both savory and sweet dishes. My favorites are the Chocolate and Pear Cake (absolutely top-notch) and the Ricotta and Chocolate Cake, which is delicate and perfectly balanced. The staff are friendly and always happy to explain the creations they make!

It's a nice addition to the cafe options in Tampere, the interior feels cosy and inviting, food is good (had their salad, pastry, cioccolata and gelato) Will be back again to try more things from their pastry and cake selection ☺️

Our experience at Karalis was absolutely brilliant. We’ve been there several times, and the savoury tarts weren’t just delicious and reflected the seasonality of the ingredients, fresh and of the highest quality. We’ll definitely be going back!

I would have appreciated to have more italian things. At the end is a normal cafe with some small things that are italian or sardinian. Prices over the moon. Asking more than 6€ for a small piece of banana bread I think is crazy. Just after we ordered they said they have a private event so we felt so awkard and unwanted there. I would have liked to know it from the beggining to decide if to stay or not. Gelatto was great.
