Skip the Krämerbrücke crowds. Schöne Dinge sits a short walk north of Erfurt's old town, mixing home decor, small gifts and pieces with a deliberate GDR era charm. It's the kind of shop the neighbourhood itself had been asking for, not another stall aimed at tourists.

Kim Westerhoff opened it in the Johannesvorstadt, a stretch of the city that rarely gets written up next to the Anger. It gives the area one more reason to be a stop, not just a route through to somewhere else.

A really cute shop with an incredibly well-chosen selection of coffee specialties, and since this week they've also been serving breakfast on Saturdays, which we had. The food quality is above average; the owner puts so much love into it, and you can taste and feel it! You immediately feel welcome and warmly received.
