Comal

Mexican small plates, no Tex-Mex safety net
A comal is the pan tortillas are cooked on, and that tells you the ambition here. Varun Pereira and Pratheek K Reddy opened this place because Bengaluru had plenty of Tex-Mex and almost nothing else.
The menu runs on platos chicos now. Start with the pickled vegetables, corn cream and tajin furikake. The carne asada, beef tenderloin on a skewer with chile butter and scallion salsa, is the dish to order. Birria consomme arrives with lamb neck and ramen noodles, then horchata, a hibiscus agua fresca and a bunuelos sundae close things out.

Fine Dine Mexican restaurant located near Trinity Circle Make reservations before hand as the seating is limited and walk-ins are generally not accepted. We got a reservation for four but if you are going alone, opt for the counter seats next to the chefs. We tried a lot of dishes and most of them were really good. We tried Chilaquiles Poblanos with shredded chicken, Pollo Asado, Carne Asada, Lechon, Suaderos(Taco), Horchata, Orange Float, Taco De Pollo (Chicken Taco), Cerdo Asado (Taco), Churros and Bunuelos Sundae. Everyone had favourites according to their personal tastes and preferences. Pollo Asado, Chilaquiles Poblanos(Eat soon after they serve else they can get soggy), Horchata, Suaderos and Churros were my favourites. The space is small but ambience is still good. The servers are friendly and helpful. The prices are a little on the expensive side. However, overall I would highly recommend the restaurant for fine dining mexican food.

Every visit to COMAL has been a wonderful experience. The food is rich in flavor and feels authentic, while the atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between lively and intimate. Even when it's busy, it remains a great place to relax and enjoy quality conversations. The staff are incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to help you find exactly what you'll enjoy. COMAL is a place that keeps you coming back for both the food and the experience. A truly delightful experience from start to finish! The Horchata was an absolute standout: beautifully sweet, nutty, and velvety smooth, with a gentle hint of warming spice lingering on the palate. Served perfectly chilled over ice, it was incredibly refreshing and paired wonderfully with the meal, offering a cooling contrast that balanced every bite of spice with effortless grace. The Chilaquiles Poblanos were simply irresistible. Crispy fried corn tortillas were generously coated in a rich roasted poblano sauce that was smoky, creamy, and deeply flavorful. each bite delivered a perfect harmony of texture and taste. Comforting, indulgent, and exceptionally well-crafted, it was one of those dishes that made it impossible to put the fork down.

Comal is a love letter to Mexican Cuisine. The food is authentic and delicious, made with heart and intention. Whenever Indian ingredients are added it is done so with respect to both traditions and the results are amazing. As a Mexican, I am happy to have a place to go whenever I am craving proper Mexican food and I will surely be back soon.
