Designer menswear in an old Nishijin braid factory

Look for the disused kumihimo braid factory in Nishijin and you've found Stactile. Director Masakazu Kuroda reworked the old weaving-district building rather than gut it, and dropped the shop's former name, THE CONTEMPORARY FIX Kyoto, in the process.

The rack mixes Japanese and European labels: TOGA VIRILIS, C.E, BED j.w. FORD, plus shoes and small accessories. BED j.w. FORD has done two pop-ups here, and Stactile keeps a second counter on the seventh floor of Fujii Daimaru downtown.

Good to know

• Open 11:00 to 19:00; appointments are taken after closing if you ask.
• It sits in a residential stretch of Nishijin, so allow time to find the door.

  The store's interior, atmosphere, and products are all wonderful. Although it's located away from the city center of Kyoto, it's a shop worth making a special trip for.
