Tea bar, cocktail bar and clothing rail sharing one room
One room, two ideas: a Japanese tea kissa and bar on one side, a small clothing select shop on the other, hung right next to the tea counter instead of tucked away. It sits on the street linking Motomachi and Chinatown, five minutes from Motomachi-Chukagai station.
Straight tea brews start the afternoon, then the menu turns to tea based cocktails as the night goes on. The clothing rail is small and changes often. Shaved ice turns up for a stretch each summer.
Good to know
- Open 14:00 to 23:00 Tuesday to Saturday, until 21:00 on Sunday, closed Mondays.
- It is on the ground floor of an apartment block, not a shopfront street - look for the sign rather than a window.

Matcha was not good and the waitress took forever to make one drink. Not sure about the high score reviews.

No Count is a stylish, hipster matcha tea and cocktail bar that also features a retail section. I visited in the evening and tried one of their matcha-based cocktails, which was excellent. I absolutely enjoyed the ambience and the drinks, and the matcha Basque cheesecake was a standout as well. It offers a perfect, quiet escape just outside the bustling Chinatown area.

Verdict: Very good... Ordered: Matcha, Genmaicha with Matcha (plus a second brew) If you're looking for a relaxing space to enjoy great tea, this is the place to be. The tea is delicious, and the staff are very attentive, explaining the tea utensils on display when you ask. Personally, I really enjoyed being able to take home the second brew of Genmaicha with Matcha (+300 yen), allowing me to enjoy the afterglow. It's a much better experience than just popping into a cafe and taking a break while fiddling with your phone. Note: While the one-drink system is one drink per person, even if you order the three-drink tasting set, if you're with two people, you'll need to order another drink.

I went into a nearby place for coffee, but I think I will try the tea next time I visit. They had a wide variety of teas on the menu, as well as coffee options. The coffee was delicious, and since they brewed it with moderately warm water rather than sweltering, I was able to drink it in perfect condition as soon as it was served. The matcha manju I received for an additional 700 yen was also tasty, and the staff were friendly with everything from taking orders to serving. Since it is a small space that also sells alcohol, I would like to visit again at night if I get the chance. Although it is close to Chinatown, it is located right after the town ends, so if you look out the window, it looks like just an ordinary Japanese street.
