Every rack downtown stocked exclusively with Jordanian labels

Bayt Amman sits on Sa'adeh Street in the old downtown, right across from the King Ghazi Hotel, built around one rule: design Amman, wear Amman. Streetwear hangs next to hand-thrown clay pieces, handmade jewelry, sportswear, and accessories, all sorted by brand rather than by category.

Most of what's on these racks would otherwise only turn up online or at a weekend market, so the selection keeps changing. Qashabeyyeh jackets one month, a new Jordanian sportswear label the next. The souvenir shops down the street are still selling the same embroidered runners they were five years ago. This is the opposite of that.

Good to know

• It is in the middle of the downtown souk streets, a few minutes from the Roman theatre, easier on foot than by car.
