A bar on stilts, out over the open water
Wheelhouse Marina is known for one thing: a bar built on stilts over Lake Malawi at Kambiri Point. Cold beer and a few cocktails, served on plastic chairs. Nothing fancy, but the position over open water keeps people coming back.
The lodge behind it rents rooms and a campsite for Senga Bay's backpacker crowd, and the kitchen serves the usual grilled chambo and chips. Smaller and scruffier than the resorts down the beach, and that's the appeal.
Good to know
- Go for sunset, the bar faces west across the lake.
- It also runs a campsite if you just want the bar without the room rate.

What a beautiful safe place to camp, a true gem! Staff was the most friendly and willing to help, any task was welcomed with a smile, no effort spared. Ablution was below par, but what a location. Kids could paddle all day long, swimming pool and bar was all on hand. Even a diving trip by boat was arranged, which was amazing! This was exactly what we needed!!! Thank Mike and staff! Unforgettable indeed

If you're seeking a peaceful retreat to reconnect with loved ones or simply unwind, this place is a true haven. The beach is breathtaking soft sands, calming waves, and an atmosphere that instantly soothes the soul. Whether you're lounging under the shade of the beautiful trees or enjoying a friendly game of pool, there's a quiet charm that makes every moment feel special. The ambiance is serene, perfect for slowing down and savoring quality time. You are allowed to picnic While you're there for a fee of course, if you ask me I'll say its worth it. While most of the experience is delightful, the initial welcome could use a warmer touch. The gateman, being the first point of contact, sets the tone for your visit, and a more inviting approach would make a meaningful difference. Still, the natural beauty and peaceful vibe more than make up for it. I wholeheartedly recommend visiting it's a place where memories are made and stress melts away.
