Namibia Maritime Museum

Sub-Saharan Africa's biggest maritime museum, built inside a 1911 power station
The Namibia Maritime Museum opened on 11 September 2024, when then-President Nangolo Mbumba cut the ribbon inside Lüderitz's old power station, built in 1910 and 1911. Five floors and 2,500 square metres cover the coast's fishing, mining, and shipping history, from replica vessels to the offshore oil and gas exploration happening right now.
Debmarine added a permanent exhibition in 2025, so the collection keeps growing. Entry costs about N$30, and the restored building alone is worth that.
Good to know
- Entry about N$30

The museum was such a refreshing experience and sight to see. Full of the marine history, discovery of diamonds etc. Our tour guide was very helpful and kind.

A great variety of items and examples on display. Well done! There are however a few displays lacking information - not sure if still in development, but more information on te individual exhibits will add lots of value to the visitors experience. Thanks for what you’ve done and achieved thus far. We look forward to another visit and then to bring friends or family along.
