Where Opuwo's different communities mix

Castle Bar sits in Opuwo's Otuzemba area, one of the town's better known bars, known well enough that a 2026 police report about a drunk driving arrest named its parking lot as the location without explaining where that was. Photographer Peter Menzel shot a series here showing Himba women in traditional dress mixing with other Namibians over drinks, a scene that captures Opuwo's role as the meeting point between Kaokoland's rural communities and the rest of the country.

Locals sometimes call it Castle Bar Number 2, though nobody online explains what happened to a first one. It's a neighborhood bar rather than a tourist stop: cold drinks and a crowd that's almost entirely local.
