Japanese grill and sushi right on the water
Zuuma runs a Japanese-style grill and sushi kitchen on the Ålesund waterfront, working with local halibut, salmon and mackerel. The menu moves between grill, sushi and fusion plates.
The dining room faces the water, a clean modern space for the food. It's a Japanese take on a town built on seafood.

Nice food, we ended up going here instead of ‘Fisketorget’ as the location was better. The food was nice, they seated us in front of the sushi kitchen (we hadn’t booked ahead of time on a Saturday), but we only found out that they didn’t have the fish soup after we wanted to order it. Norway isn’t great at service, it would have been better to be told what they don’t have on the menu as they seated us, but otherwise it was good and we’d probably go there again.

1. Food: 5/5 The food is excellent in taste, texture, and appearance, but the portions are not the biggest. All of the sushi and skewers we had were excellent. I also strongly recommend the fish soup, since it's a fusion of miso paste and traditional Norwegian fish soup, it had great spices and umami from both fish and miso, and it was just overall incredible. 2. Service: 4/5 The service is fairly standard. It's not extraordinary, but it's good. Whenever we needed something, the server would come to help us, so I have nothing to complain about.

I really enjoyed the beautifully served sushi and the delicate desserts. Foods seems being made with great care and actually they tasted good. To be honest, I never expected to find good sushi in Alesund. However, the sake prices were quite shocking. A bottle that costs around €7 in Japan was being sold for €100 here. I understand that prices in Norway are generally high, but this difference felt a bit unreasonable.
