Locke de Santa Joana

A seventeenth-century convent with a pool in it

Nuns used to live here. Now it's 370 apartments, a pool, restaurants, bars and co-working desks tucked inside the old convent walls. Original detailing survived the renovation, and a small on-site museum displays what builders dug up along the way.

It's minutes from Avenida da Liberdade, an easy walk into the center. Book a room with a kitchen if you're staying a week.

Great hotel with a fantastic vibe from the moment you arrive. Really friendly staff and they guy that hosts in the coffee shop in the lobby was super friendly and happy everyday. Even remembers your name after a couple of days. The only negative that I would have is the room cleaning policy didn’t really make sense and should be highlighted when you book in the policy that daily cleaning isn’t provided. We also arrived on a weekend and it was hot and there seemed to be quite a few people from outside the hotel using the pool etc and taking up all the pool chairs. Even when it was not the weekend there just didn’t seem to be enough chairs for the amount of guests. And then of course people leaving their towels on the beds all day even when they leave for over 2 hours. So maybe there needs to be a policy board that if beds are left for more than half an hour with no use then they can be used by other guests.

I generally enjoyed my stay at Locke de Santa Joana. The building is quite big bit it’s pretty straightforward to navigate thanks to the multiple maps available around. The pool area is pretty nice although it has a limited numbers of seats. I stayed in a Locke room, it was pretty nice, comfy bed and okay bathroom. Block D, where I stayed, had incredibly dirty corridors, full of dust, I think it was never cleaned over the 3 days of my stay (see pictures). Location is very good, very close to the metro station, few stops you get to the center.

This place was SO beautiful! The location, accessibility, and aesthetic were top notch. The lobby cafe was the best way to start our day & the courtyard restaurant next to the pool was my fiancé and I's favorite place to unwind after exploring the city. 10/10 would return and recommend to anyone debating on where to stay in Lisbon!!

I enjoyed my stay here and the staff were phenomenal. A special shoutout to Paulo, Carlota, Natalia and Claudia, who were all amazing. Pros- Good location, lots of restaurants nearby, cute decor in rooms and lobby, friendly staff, younger and more hip clientele, good transportation links. They also have a WhatsApp number so you can easily contact reception for anything. Cons- Breakfast was not special at all, very basic options, especially for the amount you pay to stay there. I would have liked to see more portugese specialties, they only had pastel de nata. They only refresh the room every couple of days, they do not clean daily. Thats their policy, so keep this in mind. Aside from that I enjoyed my stay and loved the kitchenette facilities which is quite rare nowadays. Do note: You will pay city tax of €4 per night upon check in.

This hotel is absolutely wonderful, and I couldn’t recommend it more. The location is fantastic just a two-minute walk from one of Lisbon’s largest and most beautiful parks, and only about twenty minutes on foot from the main shopping areas and many great restaurants. The hotel itself is truly impressive. Although it doesn’t seem that large at first glance, it’s designed so well that you never feel crowded or constantly surrounded by other guests. There is a sense of privacy and tranquility throughout the property. One of my favorite details was the art gallery located within the hotel, which gives the entire place a unique and sophisticated atmosphere. The swimming pool is also stunning, perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring the city. The hotel offers several excellent restaurants, and even the coffee served in the lobby on the ground floor is outstanding. I loved this hotel so much that I’m returning to Lisbon and choosing to stay here again. For me, that’s the best recommendation I can give. 5 out of 5 stars.
