Chez Atty puts its tables right in the sand, close enough to Somone's water that it works as a sunset bar first and a restaurant second. The kitchen runs Italian next to Senegalese: raw fish tartare and handmade gnocchi alongside grilled langouste.

Thursdays mean happy hour from around 5pm, and the beach out front turns into a playground if you've got kids along. Book through WhatsApp rather than a phone call. That alone tells you who's eating here.

We tried a number of beach side restaurants here, but once we discovered Chez Atty we came back every day for a week! It is the best by far. The fish was fresh and perfectly grilled, the staff were welcoming and friendly, and the location was perfect for sunset meals overlooking the sea. The atmosphere is very warm and authentic, lots of locals stop by, it feels like a community. Add a beach fire, some musicians and spontaneous dancing - it’s a magic place and well worth a visit. We have been to beach front restaurants in every continent, and this is one of the best anywhere.

Best beachfront restaurant I found during my stay in Somone. And the only one that didn't use plastic straws. Friendly staff and quality food, while watching daily life go by on the bay.
