Big Mahmoud
★ 4.2 · 10 reviews El Jem Opened 21 April 2026
Tea, pizza and a play area, all under one roof
Big Mahmoud opened April 21, 2026 on Rue Hedi Chaker. Locals call it El Jem's first real leisure center: tea salon, restaurant and kids' play area combined. The menu runs from savory plates to pizzas and waffles, and the premium chicha gets as much care as the coffee.
Open daily from 8am to 11pm, long hours for a town this size. Bookings go through WhatsApp, not a phone call. Most restaurants in town are grill houses facing the amphitheater, so parents dropping kids at the play area while they finish a pot of tea is new here.

An excellent spot in El Jem! We had coffee and breakfast at Big Mahmood and everything was absolutely delicious. The staff and servers are incredibly kind, welcoming, and attentive. It's the perfect place to start the day in a great atmosphere (or even for a gourmet coffee break). You can go there without hesitation; I highly recommend it! However, you have to be very patient to get lunch. About an hour's wait!
