Guest roasters rotate weekly at this Kings Heath corner shop
Skip the house blend, there isn't one. Pause runs a rotating roster of guest roasters, so the coffee changes even when the pastry case doesn't. It built its following through pop-ups and a Stirchley base before landing on the corner of Poplar and Woodville Road.
The move tracks the same southward drift of Birmingham's independent café scene that's also hit Cotteridge, chasing affordable rents and a coffee-literate crowd along the number 50 bus route.

Our fave cafe! Best pastries, we genuinely can’t enjoy other pastries or cakes now because we always compare them to the ones from Pause. They are the best! The coffee and matcha are also 10/10. Coming here is the highlight of our week😂♥️

An ideal place to pause. A good find, tasty and moist cinnamon bun. Friendly staff, lovely customers in a quiet area of Kings Heath. I am glad I run into a gem, independent coffee shop with a very good coffee.

Cute place, nice staff especially owners, service was fast! Matcha was okay ~ not the best? Just very average matcha more on the stronger side which I liked :).

We treated ourselves to a visit to pause yesterday. I had the cold brew that Rory had recommend to the customer before us. I’m so glad I did, it was delicious with the taste of passion fruit kicking through. I also took a slice of chocolate fudge cake which I saved as a treat once I had finished my gardening. It was so good Farah is a genius! Such a warm and friendly place! Best coffee and baked goods in Brum 🔥
