Shiitake butter Manhattans at the top of Rainey
Modern Bar opened in April 2026 at the base of The Modern Austin Residences, the tower at the north end of Rainey. It is part of the recent run of bars trying to give that street something other than a queue.
The list mixes classics with a few detours, including a Manhattan built on shiitake butter and sherry. Order that one and see whether the idea survives contact.

Nice upscale craft cocktail bar. The bartender did a great job explaining the inspiration and craft behind each cocktail we ordered.

Had a great time here! The atmosphere was fun and stylish, the cocktails were excellent, and the staff was friendly throughout the night. Perfect spot for drinks with friends or a date night on Rainey Street. We'll definitely be back!

We had a great time at MODERN BAR on Rainey Street. The atmosphere was stylish, upbeat, and perfect for a night out in downtown Austin. The drinks were fantastic — creative, well-balanced, and beautifully presented. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the overall vibe made it easy to relax and enjoy the evening. Definitely a great spot for cocktails and a fun night with friends or a date night. We’ll definitely be back!

Great place nothing but good things to say. I really like that Rainey finally has a spot where you can dress up a bit more and still get that NYC style nightlife feel. The staff is incredible Gabe and the team run a tight operation, and the customer service is very professional. Overall, this has become one of my new favorite spots in Austin, whether I’m hosting clients or just out for an evening of leisure 10/10.

Haley was our lovely server! Professional, attentive and very outgoing! Our first time in Austin since 1997 and wonderful atmosphere. Thank you for the awesome martinis and prosciutto ham and Parmesan/gruerere cheese sandwich. A+++++++
