Houston's matcha obsession finally has a real home

ensō matcha spent its early days as a pop-up before earning a reputation as the shop Houston matcha fans actually cared about. Now it's got a permanent spot in the Heights, and the concept feels fuller for it: matcha as the whole point, not a line item on a coffee menu.

The new space keeps longer hours than the old setup, roughly eight to seven most days. Other matcha shops have followed its lead around the city since, which says something about who got there first.

I love love loveee the drinks here! Have been to many other matcha spots around Houston but enso always takes the cake for me :) staff and the owner are always soo so nice as well! They really make you feel welcomed here. Thank you suzie for the awesome fruity pebbles banana pudding/mango matcha :)

Honestly the best matcha in all of Houston!! A bit pricey but i believe it’s worth it as it’s very authentic. The place is very cute and in a good location, I would recommend to anyone wanting to try an actual good matcha. The mango and strawberry flavor were very good will be going back to try more:)

This is my absolute favorite matcha spot!! They are so kind and welcoming with every guest that comes through. The matcha is always consistent and yummy every single time too.

This newly opened matcha spot is located in downtown, so parking can be a bit limited. It gets very busy on weekends, but there are around 20 seats inside plus a few benches outside. One thing I really enjoyed is that they prepare and whisk the matcha right in front of you. Drinks are around $9-13 for a 16 oz size, which I think is a good value. The interior is adorable with a very Japanese aesthetic, and I love that the teapots they use are imported from Japan. My only two suggestions for improvement: the music inside is quite loud, making it difficult to chat and hang out with friends, and I noticed the same towel used to wipe down the counter was also used to dry the chawan. Hopefully this is something the team can improve, as I otherwise had a great experience.

Best matcha in Houston for sure. I got the banana pudding matcha which came with a scoop of biscoff banana pudding. It was so perfect and well balanced! There was a long line but it moved very quick and the staff were exceptionally friendly. This will definitely become my favorite matcha spot.
