Mitchell's Market reborn as a corner store with a serious prepared-food case

Mitchell's Market sat on Penmar Avenue for decades before this July 2026 revamp. Bodega + Palms keeps the corner-store job description (sunscreen, dog treats, protein bars, paper towels) and adds the part Venice actually turns up for.

The prepared-food section pulls from neighbours rather than an in-house kitchen: breakfast burritos, focaccia sandwiches from Jennie's House, pastries out of Hasi Bread, frozen pizzas from Fiorelli. It works as a grocery run and a lunch stop in the same visit.

New favorite place for a cold sparkly drink, a snack and some vibes! This place is sooo cute! I ended up trying their veggie burrito and it was absolutely delicious! The iced coffee was perfect. The price was beyond reasonable and the people working were the sweetest. I want this place to succeed sooo much! Great lil bodega and the vintage VW out front is the absolute best. My lil human has already asked to come back! This is a place u for sure keep coming back too.

I'm truly hoping this will get better. I went in around 10:00 am and all breakfast items were gone. No pastries, nothing. (I was hoping for espresso but they only have drip coffee from an urn. My bad; they never said they'd have espresso.) I then asked about lunch items and they said their sandwiches would arrive around 12:30. So between 10 and 12:30, no food, even though they advertise themselves as a cafe. Finally, they promoted that they would have soft serve, which I was super excited about, but they don't. Just some kind of ice cream that they can mix stuff into? They weren't too clear explaining that concept. I've been anxiously awaiting their opening and I hope they will get better, but I was really disappointed so far.
