Lobo Hostel Bar

★ 4.1 · 443 reviews Cabo Polonio Opened Opening date unknown

Uruguay's only bar you reach by 4x4 over dunes

There's no paved road into Cabo Polonio, so getting to Lobo Hostel Bar means a truck ride over the dunes. They joke it's the first bar in the country with landing included, and once you've made the trip you get why.

The hostel runs an open kitchen and a bar built for bonfire nights and live music. It stays open all year, rare for a village this seasonal, and the bar keeps pouring long after the kitchen shuts.

The location is fantastic and the price is great. Definitely budget friendly. The owner is nice too so that is a great vibe. There is possibilityto eat there but we didn't do it as it was VERY expensive (but the place is remote, remember). However, in my opinion there was room for some improvement with the following points: 1. The rooms are very small, incredibly warm, very unpractical and without mosquito net. Some staff members seemed to have mosquito nets in their room so it would have been nice to have that for the guests. 2. The kitchen has poor lighting equipment so you need your front light. 3. Charging situation is a bit chaotic (nothing the place can do about it) so bring Powerbank loaded. 4. The place seems to live off their bar & restaurant so it's noisy, party atmosphere. If you want to really disconnect, there would be other places I guess (but more expensive). 5. The volunteers seemed to be on a vibe of their own. Which is nice. But as guests, we didn't feel so welcome by them (except the owner).

We stayed in a private room for 3 nights. The location is excellent, right between two beaches and close to the terminal and the only supermarket. However, the private rooms feel like staying in someone’s attic, the ceiling is so low that I couldn’t stand up straight, and I’m only 167 cm tall. The kitchen could also be improved. It’s not very clean or well equipped, though you can still get by. All of this would have been manageable if not for the mosquitos at night. There are many gaps between the roof and the walls, and mosquitos constantly came in. We had more than 10 in the room every night and got bitten a lot. They really should install mosquito nets, as using blankets for protection isn’t realistic in such hot weather if you go in summer. We tried many ways but nothing really worked :/ In short: everything’s fine EXCEPT sleeping, due to the mosquitos

Backpacking and a stop in Lobo Hostel! It was an very exciting trip to Cabo Polonio. We stayed there for about 3 nights. After the first evening i felt like home. Everyone there was so helpful and relaxed. The Food was everytime very delicious and freshly prepared. From different homemade stoneofen pizzas up to vegeterian Curry.

Only rating on the meal at the bar/restaurant. Everything was amazing and cooked fresh to order. Pollo Milanese, tapioca quesadilla, and curry pescador were stellar. The girls also loved their fresh made smoothie made in front of them with the fruit of their choosing.

The girls are really nice! They put a lot of effort for letting the place going on. Very nice atmosphere all day long and great terrace to chill. Although, the shared rooms are really really really small, and if it is raining or it is cold/windy outside you don't know exactly where to stay.. Common areas are mainly ouside and priority is given to the customers of the restaurant.
