Produce and crafts under the banyan tree, three mornings a week
Skip the souvenir stalls. Lenakel Market is where the whole west coast of Tanna comes to sell, right in the middle of Blackman Town under a huge banyan tree.
It runs Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings and it's the commercial heart of the town, not a tourist stop. Fresh fruit, vegetables, and the occasional handicraft stall, plus a decent sense of how Lenakel actually works.
Good to know
- Only runs Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings.
- Look for the big banyan tree in the middle. It's the town's meeting point.

Great place to get local food and buy fruits/veggies Many stands to buy snacks or samples of local cuisine. We ate there a few times and it was much cheaper than buying food at hôtels or resorts. But you have to be there before 17:00

A lovely, colourful market in Lenakel: a feast for the eyes, the nose and the taste buds :)

A lovely local market where you can buy seasonal fruits and vegetables. A variety of dishes are also offered at lunchtime. It's a nice opportunity to sample the local cuisine, which unfortunately isn't particularly spiced.
