An English-style pub doing serious Sunday roasts
Daphne is a proper public house, English in spirit, but the kitchen is doing more than the format usually asks for. Plan your week around the Sunday roast.
This end of Lygon Street, down in Brunswick East, has quietly overtaken the Carlton stretch. Tram 1 drops you right outside, and Broadsheet named it one of Melbourne's fourteen best new restaurants this year.

Fantastic all round, we will be returning. Great food, we had octopus skewer, hash brown, cheeseburger, half chicken, salad. Was exceptional quality. Service was on point, always there when you need, but not overbearing. Actually worthy of a top. Atmosphere is fantastic, great interior, good flow, good acoustics, great vibes, happy staff. Note that payment process involves tipping or opting out.

Had an amazing experience at Daphne in Melbourne. The steak tartare was an absolute highlight; easily one of the best dishes I’ve had in a long time. The martinis were also excellent and complemented the meals perfectly. A special compliment to Josh, the chef, who truly made the experience a 10/10. The food, service, and overall atmosphere were outstanding from start to finish. I would highly recommend Daphne to anyone visiting or living in Melbourne. Looking forward to coming back!

Daphne in East Brunswick in Melbs came highly recommended, and it delivered! From the moment we walked through the front door, into a fabulous room, till the moment we settled the bill (complete with a generous tip) all the staff were absolutely amazing. Welcoming, friendly, helpful and good with the banter. Perfect! Daphne have two steaks on their menu: a Macedon Ranges 250g Porterhouse and a Macedon Ranges Black Angus 600g ribeye. We opted for the Porterhouse, and it was delicious, although the pepper sauce overwhelmed the flavour of the beef to a certain extent. Pity. But the hero of the day was the Flathead with the tomato and caper butter. Absolutely a spectacular cook of a beautiful fish. Bravo! We had a delicious Pira Dolcetto to wash down the steak and a gorgeous fiano too to pair with the fish. Gorgeous wines, to compliment a delicious lunch. We love Daphne ... a lot! Steak: 7/10. Fish: 9/10. Restaurant experience 9/10. A sensational long lunch.

We went at lunch on Saturday and sat outside with our dog. It was pretty quiet and we had to order inside. 5 stars just for the Pork Cotoletta with caesar salad, one of the better dishes i have had this year. The other dishes (steak, fries, roasted peppers) were tasty but not particularly memorable. $170 for 2 ppl (inc public holiday surchargel

Went tonight for their steak night. Absolutely delicious! Steak cooked perfectly, seasoned perfectly and pepper sauce so good. The Pinot by the glass was very good and the staff were fantastic. Friendly light banter that made us feel really welcome without being overbearing. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming and stylish. We will definitely be back.
