A De Mol face's café on the rebuilt riverside

Uma Vandemaele swapped the classroom for the counter, and Baruma is what she calls Kortrijk's second living room. She's the ex-teacher who went national on De Mol two years before opening it.

The café sits at Kasteelkaai 4, in the old Sweet Lime spot, right where the city just lowered the Leieboorden down to the water. Expect beer, coffee, cake and sharing boards on a riverside walk worth the wander.

I went here for a drink on a sunny afternoon, and it is definitely worth repeating. We sat outside on the terrace, with a beautiful view of the Leie and the surrounding greenery. The location is undoubtedly one of Baruma's greatest assets and creates a very pleasant, peaceful atmosphere. I had a refreshing beer, which was well chilled and, moreover, correctly priced. The service was friendly and helpful. The only minor downside was that it took a while before we could place our order. Afterwards, it turned out that you normally have to order inside at the bar, unless it is very quiet and they come to the table. That wasn't clear to us, as it wasn't mentioned anywhere. Perhaps it would be useful to indicate this on the menu or on the tables, so that new visitors know immediately how it works. Otherwise, a very nice experience. The location by the water, in particular, makes this a lovely place to go for a drink on a sunny day.
