Ask for the Peru-inspired house blend and you'll get the short version of why Hummingbird Coffee Co. exists. New owners gutted the old Koffee Korner on Portage Road and rebuilt it around beans roasted right there in the shop.

The espresso bar and pastry case do the work, not the address. Portage Road here is mostly plazas and drive-throughs, well outside the tourist zone. Weekday mornings run busy with a regular crowd rather than visitors passing through.
