Beachfront bar across from the airport, happy hour half the day

Land in Rarotonga, drop your bags, walk straight onto the sand. Hula Bar sits right on the beach in Nikao, part of The Islander Hotel, directly opposite the airport, and it's built for exactly that first drink of the trip.

The happy hour runs so long it barely counts as one. Most nights there's live music or a DJ from 8pm, and during whale season the people-watching rivals the drinks list.

Good to know

  • Daily happy hour, roughly 11am to late.
  • Live music and DJ sets most nights from 8pm.

This restaurant / bar is right across the street for the airport. Perfect spot to walk over after checking your bags. They have a great view and free WiFi! Only downsides: drink menu doesn’t have explanations for the speciality cocktails and the drinks were served in plastic cups.

Laid back bar with a swimming pool in the middle of the dining area. Had Dinner here on the earlier side of 5 and it wasn't busy, the food came out quickly. I ordered the green curry, not the green curry I'm use to from the states but it was tasty. Husband ordered the fish of the day which was Marlin and it had a light sauce with it. It was my preferred dish between the two.

Enjoyed some lovely meals here, the Palmerston parrot fish and the grilled octopus were superbly cooked and well presented but the lobster was a bit dry and plain (my recommendation: stick with local seafood). We chose to dine here based on the menu having more seafood options. The service was minimalist and the venue look tired, the reef outlook was nice.

The perfect place to come if you’re on the way to the airport or your flight has been delayed. We had the lobster and king prawns - delicious! Sea facing so can get windy. Superb place to relax for a few hours. Friendly staff and comfortable place to eat food and have a few beers.

We ordered oysters and sashimi which was yummy, took a little long to come out but I guess it was a busy Sunday for them. Had a little run in with the bar lady which was uncalled for and completely not my fault as the waiter agreed to make an ice coffee with coconut milk instead of full cream milk, had he told me they couldn't I would of ordered something else. When taking my drink back she gave me a bit of attitude like it was my fault, no apology when she could of seriously made me sick being lactose intolerant. I asked for coconut milk in front of my whole table and the waiter agreed it was okay. Next time take it up with your staff who took my order instead of giving me the dirtiest look like I was being a difficult customer.
