A tasting menu mapped by altitude, not by course

Forget starter, main, dessert. Chef Daniel Maldonado built URKO's tasting menu around Ecuador's ecosystems, climbing from coast to páramo one course at a time. This is the restaurant that made his name, tucked on Calle Mallorca in Quito.

His second project, La Ñora, flips the script: traditional Ecuadorian food, self-service, a big patio. Different mood, same last name on the door, both worth the trip.

Fantastic eating experience! Lovely wines to compliment explosive flavours- enjoy the flavours in each dish We enjoyed the 6 tasters but could have taken 10- each dish provided an immense tasting experience - the sparkling wine was Devine - the staff were lovely especially our waiter We would highly recommend this experience 😁

I enjoyed the culinary experience here. I will say, the aesthetics of the dishes are better than the taste. Most of the courses feel experimental, with the priority being creativity and visuals over the taste. The service was very good, and you also get ponchos on your seats which you can buy for $25 each. Overall it's a good restaurant, but relative to the price you pay it isn't outstanding.
