Nubian design, gourmet coffee, open all night long

TEGOS trades the mixed-grill menu most Aswan cafés fall back on for gourmet coffee and desserts, wrapped in Nubian design: the geometric patterns and warm colour blocking you'd otherwise find across the river in the villages. Sahlab sits on the menu next to the espresso drinks, a nod to the old-school Egyptian coffee-house repertoire.

It actually runs round the clock, which counts for something in a city where dining outside the hotel strip shuts down early. Locals come here specifically to escape instant Nescafé.
