The convenience store every Sinai road trip stops at.

Take 5 started in Dahab in 2008, built for tourists crossing Sinai's desert stretches where a regular supermarket doesn't exist. The Taba branch sits right at the border crossing, doing the same job as the last stop before Israel or the first one back into Egypt. Shelves lean heavy on imported snacks, chocolate and drinks rather than a full grocery range.

It also works as a quick coffee and brunch stop, according to its own Instagram, which matters more here than in Dahab since little else opens early at the crossing. Anyone who timed a border crossing badly and got stuck waiting an hour usually ends up here by default.

Good to know

• Stock up here before a long desert drive; it's the last real shop before the border.
