Chona's Marani

A generations-old qvevri winery finally gets a tasting room
The Chonishvili family has made natural qvevri wine in Telavi for generations, but you couldn't sit down and drink it on-site until now. In spring 2026 they're opening a wine house on Bakhtrioni Street, right next to the family cellar, with a tasting room and restaurant.
Michael Chonishvili runs it day to day. The wine is the same low-intervention, qvevri-aged stuff the family has always made. Now there's a table to drink it at instead of just a bottle to carry home.

Small family-run vineyard. We had a very authentic and atmospheric tasting and wine tour!

The wine was excellent, the food was delicious (especially the eggplant), the view was spectacular, and the owner extremely knowledgeable and friendly.

Georginan wine often has a musty aftertaste—which made me write off the whole industry…until I tried Chona’s Marani. This is the best natural wine I’ve ever had.
