Greek-French tasting food on Agias Eirinis square
Skip the cafés ringing the square and head for the open kitchen instead. Chef Christos Sidiropoulos works Greek produce through French technique, more ambitious than anything else on this stretch of Athinaidos.
The building is a restored 19th-century house, which is where the name comes from. Ask for a table facing the pass rather than the square, so you can watch the plates go out.

Great experience by all aspects. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and mentioned that on the booking. when we got to he the reasturant we had a glass of proseco on the house in honour of our anniversary. Service was excellent, warm and friendly without being overwhelming. the food was simply amazing. it was last night of the witer/spring menu. the Chef, a great , easy going young talented guy , served us some of the dishes himself, explained the flavours with modesty and true interest in our taste and aproval of the plates. Food didn't just loook great, it tasted heavenly too. His cooking style is great, transforming tradiotional greek flavours through a refined set of techniques, that made you feel warm inside. Perhaps not a place to visit very often , as the cost for the 9-dish menu is sizeable, but if you care more about the food than posting on instagram (thouh all plates were a piece of art), this is the place to be!

Really accommodating and friendly service. Had an early flight next day so needed an early supper which they were able to do. The restaurant wasn’t busy and I’m not sure why as the food here is very good and we think reasonably priced. The ambience was still nice though. We had the 6 course tasting menu which the chef personally explained each course which was lovely, informative and made the experience extra special. We enjoyed the crossover of food cultures with a Greek base and the focus of fresh, local ingredients where possible. All the courses were great - stand outs being the beef and fresh baby mackerel - also the best bread we’ve had in Greece so far. We had some lovely wine recommendations too. We’ve been genuinely impressed by the fine food restaurants in Athens. Many have young, yet experienced teams who are really passionate about food and wine and Athens could well become a fining dining destination given the chance. Highly recommend.

My friends and I were wondering around in Athens and passed by the restaurant. We had a very late lunch and were not hungry but we were impressed of the design of the restaurant. We asked if we just can have a drink because we were still full from our late lunch. We sat and had a wine and they brought as an Ami’s bouche. To cut the long story short we had to try other dishes they offered because it was so delicious. Gourmet food, excellent service from Mr. Orfeals and his team. Congrats for this beautiful place.

We had a fantastic experience at 1890! . The service was excellent from start to finish. A special mention goes to our waitress, Βία, who was absolutely wonderful - attentive, welcoming, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the evening. The food was a major highlight, with every dish being exceptionally tasteful. We particularly enjoyed the grilled sea bream, which was fresh and perfectly prepared, and the fried squid skewers. We also made sure to save room for dessert; the chocolate tart and rum baba were the perfect sweet finish to the meal. The atmosphere is wonderful stylish yet comfortable—making it the perfect spot for a great night out. We had a brilliant time and will definitely be back!
