Four floors, one 19th-century mansion, chef Vangelis Dagdelenis on top

Skip the ground-floor counter and head straight up. Rhoé stacks a café and bakery, a gallery, and chef Vangelis Dagdelenis' restaurant inside a 19th-century building at the far end of Ermou, with a rooftop looking out over the Kerameikos side of the centre.

The format is a strange fit for a street that mostly sells clothes, and the mansion sat unused for years before the renovation. The roof is what the whole project was built for, so go for dinner, not coffee.

Rhoe The Acropolis fulfilled every expectation. The restaurant did not. The food failed to live up to its magnificent surroundings. At €103 per person, inclusive of transportation to our port of call, the overall cost felt decidedly exorbitant, especially considering that the bill covered food alone, without any wine, cocktails, or other alcoholic beverages. At such a price point, expectations naturally rise. Apart from the spare ribs, which stood out as the lone highlight of the meal, the dishes were largely mediocre and surprisingly forgettable. The presentation was respectable enough, but the flavours lacked depth, finesse, and the culinary refinement one would reasonably expect from an establishment commanding such prices. Nothing was offensive, yet nothing truly impressed. The food simply never rose to the standard set by its surroundings. That is precisely what made the experience so disappointing. The issue was never the cost alone, but the value received in return. A €103 bill per person can be justified anywhere in the world when the cuisine is exceptional. Here, however, the Acropolis seemed to justify the price more convincingly than the kitchen. And that is perhaps the greatest frustration. This is Athens, not New York or Sydney. Athens is celebrated for its rich culinary heritage, generous hospitality, and honest, flavourful cooking. Charging New York prices is one thing; delivering a meal that barely rises above average is another entirely. At €103 per person for food alone, diners have every right to expect a meal that is as unforgettable as the setting. Instead, it felt as though the restaurant had become overly reliant on its spectacular location, allowing the view to compensate for what the kitchen failed to achieve. A fine setting deserves fine food. Had the cuisine matched the grandeur unfolding beyond the terrace, this could have been one of the most memorable dining experiences in Athens. Refined dishes served against a refined panoramic backdrop would have created a perfect harmony between plate and place. Instead, the experience felt curiously unbalanced. The Acropolis delivered a feast for the eyes; the kitchen merely filled the stomach. Would I return? Unequivocally, no. The Acropolis will remain every bit as breathtaking tomorrow as it was tonight, but this restaurant has mistaken an extraordinary location for an excuse to charge extraordinary prices. A spectacular view may entice diners through the door, but it is exceptional food that earns their loyalty. Here, that simply did not happen. Athens offers no shortage of rooftop restaurants blessed with equally enviable views of the Acropolis. On my next visit, I would gladly choose one of those instead, one where the kitchen respects the setting as much as the setting deserves. A panoramic view should elevate an unforgettable meal, not distract from an ordinary one. The Acropolis fulfilled every expectation. The restaurant did not

The rooftop dining experience with live DJ was amazing. Breathtaking views of the city and the Acropolis. The fresh breads selection, tomato and apricot salad, grilled octopus, and fish was all very well done. Definitely worth the price.

The meal, the cocktails, the service and oh yeah, the view were awesome! Can’t say enough positive things about this place. Just go and experience for yourself!
