Mexican cooking taken up a level, near the Basilica

Maia opened on Hercegprímás utca in February 2025, a few streets from St Stephen's Basilica, with a menu that treats Mexican cooking as a base for something more refined rather than as a taco counter.

Budapest has plenty of cheap Mexican-adjacent food and very little of this. The plating is careful, the chillies are used for flavour rather than heat alone, and the cocktail list is built around agave spirits.

The service was incredibly friendly, the restaurant is beautiful, and the food was absolutely delicious and full of flavor. We especially loved the creative flavor combinations and the way different cuisines were thoughtfully combined. It was a truly unique and memorable dining experience :)

Cool Vibes, delicious food and drinks. I had the slow roast quesadilla the carne taco. Dani was super nice and took great care of me. Totally recommend it!

It has a fantastic atmosphere with a very stylish and well-designed interior. The drinks were excellent, and the food was just as impressive. We were very satisfied with our experience overall. In my opinion, this could be one of the best restaurants in the area. It’s suitable for both large groups and smaller gatherings. The service was great, and everything was clean, well-organized, and delicious.

Maia was absolutely incredible. Went there for our last meal on our weekend trip away. Everything from the amazing service from our waiter Daniel who was so knowledgable about the menu and the wines, to the decor, to the outstanding food. Would definitely recommend Maia to anyone in Budapest!
