Two machiya houses, one covered walkway, room for twelve

Book the whole thing: a main house and a detached wing linked by a covered walkway, a few minutes from Omicho market and walking distance from the Kazuemachi and Higashi teahouse districts. It's one of the larger machiya in the Machiya Residence Inn collection, twenty-three houses rented whole across Kanazawa.

The two halves are furnished in different moods, which is where the name comes from, the two resonating together. No reception, no shared spaces, just lattice screens, tatami and a courtyard alongside a modern kitchen and underfloor heating.

Good to know

• Omicho market is a few minutes' walk, buy breakfast there and eat it in the house.
• It sleeps up to twelve, so it works for a group that would otherwise book four hotel rooms.
