Pot-brewed tea on the Ōkurayama hill
Skip the usual green-or-black split. Katak Tea pours loose leaf by the pot, with a short food list to go alongside, a few minutes' walk from Ōkurayama station.
Walk up the hill after and you'll hit a 1930s Greek revival memorial hall and a plum garden worth timing your visit around. Weekday afternoons stay quiet, good for lingering over a second pot.

You can enjoy a wide variety of domestically produced teas. There are so many kinds that it's hard to choose, but the staff kindly selected some recommendations for me. I'm happy that more and more tea shops are opening in Okurayama.

I enjoyed a delicious bowl of ochazuke (rice with tea poured over it) and tasty tea in a tranquil setting. Apparently, the Ainu costumes on display were designed by the same designer as the one worn by Asirpa in the Golden Kamuy movie. While it's not exactly a place you can casually drop into, I'd like to come back occasionally to savor their delicious tea. Next time, I'd like to try the green tea.

This is a wonderful shop with a cozy atmosphere and fantastic tea! I visited early on a Saturday. Having only been open for about a month, the shop was very clean, filled with the pleasant scent of a new building and the rich aroma of tea. The welcome tea I received upon entering was delicious. The staff member who served me was incredibly kind; after a short conversation, they maintained a comfortable distance while I worked, keeping a watchful eye on me. They kindly recommended a red wine-based tea, which I sampled, and it was surprisingly delicious and unique! The hojicha chai latte I ordered was exquisite. As time went on, more customers gradually arrived, but the staff never rushed me, allowing me to relax and enjoy my time until the very end. I am truly grateful. I would love to visit again.

The tea was seriously delicious. I realized that roasted green tea can be this tasty when it's made properly. I want to try it with rice porridge.

I visited this place when I was feeling tired from city life. It's a place where you can forget about time and relax✨ I had the lavender Japanese black tea, and the aroma was truly soothing. The yokan (sweet bean jelly) and ice cream also paired well with the tea, and the flavors were gentle without being too strong. The shop owner has a wide selection of carefully chosen teas, so I think both tea connoisseurs and those who aren't will enjoy it. I will definitely visit again!
