An independent bookshop built around the literary magazine Lolwe.

Lolwe Books opened on January 26, 2026 at Alpha House on Oginga Odinga Street, giving Kisumu an independent bookshop tied to Lolwe, the Kenyan literary magazine founded by writer Troy Onyango. The shop stocks African and diaspora writing across fiction, poetry and nonfiction.

It runs author readings and a monthly book club, doubling as a small literary hub. Before this, Kisumu's bookshops mostly meant textbook and stationery chains. Lolwe is built around contemporary writing instead.
