The view here beats the menu
Thongna Sky Café looks out over open rice paddies on the edge of Champasak Town, with the hills behind Vat Phou rising in the distance. The kitchen serves a mix of Thai and Lao dishes, a change from the strictly Lao menus you find along the river.
Come for sunset, when the light catches the paddies and the hills together. It sits further out than the riverside spots, so you'll want a ride to get there, but ask anyone and they'll talk about the view before the food.
Good to know
- Time it for sunset over the paddies and the hills behind Vat Phou.
- It's a Thai-Lao menu, not strictly Lao, if you want a change from the riverside places.

Great stop to sit amongst the greenery of the rice fields even in the dry season. Views towards Phou Khao (ພູເຂົາ) — the sacred mountain of Champasak.

I like this cafe. Its food and drink are good. I came here several times. Its decoration is simple and nice. Put this cafe on top of a rice field is a good idea.

An ideal stop for visitors in this area. With stunning view over the paddy field and mountain.

Quick stop for lunch after visiting Vat Phu. The atmosphere and food are really great. But the staff almost not understand any English. However, they are very welcoming. Thanks to translate app for help.

A beautiful way to start your evening meal as you walk across a causeway over rice paddies to a restaurant with memorable views. Tranquil and romantic. Food was reasonably priced and tasty without being exceptional. Poor choice in music, unless you are a fan of Bryan Adams, Phil Collins, Bon Jovi, et al in which case it would be heaven. You can ask them to turn it down and they oblige. Get there just before sunset, have a beer, and then eat your dinner in darkness for the best experience. No mosquitos, at least not in the dry season.
