The octopus robata is the dish everyone brings up, and one bite explains why. Carmela pairs Mexican plates with Mediterranean ones and runs a sushi bar alongside both, an odd combination that somehow works a couple of blocks from Bacalar's main square.

The room stays small, so the sushi bar and dining tables share one open kitchen sightline. A happy hour on cocktails and beer pulls a crowd in before dinner service gets going.
