León's speakeasy hidden behind a bookcase

Push through what looks like an ordinary bookcase inside La Casona del Arco and you're in Enmiienda 21, a Prohibition-style speakeasy built on the same secrecy that gave the format its name a century ago. It's one of the anchors of León's small hidden-bar scene, alongside Armario Soundroom across town.

It only runs Thursday through Saturday nights, with an occasional Japanese izakaya night folded into the regular cocktail program. Finding the door is half the fun.

• Open Thursday to Saturday evenings only, access is through La Casona del Arco.
• Look for a rotating izakaya night; check their Instagram for the current schedule.
