Seafood on a 1904 harbour deck

Essenzeit sits in a building put up in 1904, right where Hafen Street meets the water, and the name is just German for mealtime. The kitchen keeps it plain: kingklip, oysters caught along this coast, steaks, and a pizza list for anyone who wants something less maritime.

Ask for a table on the outside deck if the wind allows it. Lüderitz gets properly windy most afternoons, so the staff will tell you honestly whether it's a deck day or not.

lovely place for a meal by the pier. you get essential advice when you ask for recommendations from the staff. great crew who are used to big group wanting to pay own order. food is fantastic, fresh with natural umami.

In Luderitz, restaurants and supermarkets are very limited. We visited this restaurant twice and our first visit for lunch was a 5 star experience. However, when we came for dinner, the service was very disappointing. We wanted to order drinks and food at once, since we already knew what we wanted but were told they will only do drink orders. They then took over 30 mins to provide drinks. I think we were there for approx 2 hrs in total. The food was generally quite good, especially seafood. Just certain things like pizza and pancakes were very disappointing.

We had both lunch and dinner here today. What a relaxed and cosy environment this is. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Food is of good quality. Great value for money. Booking is recommended, especially in high season.

Absolutely loved our visit to Essenzeit in Lüderitz! The view of the harbour is absolutely stunning – the perfect backdrop for a relaxing meal. We started with the garlic snails and garlic focaccia bread, both bursting with flavour and beautifully presented. The highlight was the seafood platter – incredibly fresh and cooked to perfection. A must-visit spot when you're in Lüderitz!
