A tiny coffee box on Ward Place that turned into a chain

Divide started in 2025 as a few hundred square feet on Ward Place, pouring specialty coffee and ceremonial matcha out of what's basically a box. The mirror wall inside did most of the marketing on its own.

A third Colombo outlet followed in Rajagiriya in December 2025, then another at Nawam Mawatha. Same small-footprint idea each time. The Ward Place original is still the one people mean when they say Divide.

The specialty coffee is of a very high standard. Easily the best coffee in the island. Highly rated & recommended.

The space isn’t large, but it feels cozy and welcoming. The chocolate cake was delicious, with just the right amount of sweetness, not too heavy. The matcha was also excellent, light and fresh. The staff was friendly and attentive. Would definitely come back.

Finally!! After hyperfixating on their matcha for the longest time through UberEats, I've been able to find the opportunity to visit this store in person. I've tried the plain matcha lattes from several cafés now, but so far—from those that deliver on UberEats—theirs is the best in terms of quality & sugar control. (I do feel like lately the matcha has become a bit diluated by the time it gets to me though, perhaps because it's hot & the ice melts faster. Since when I drank it in store today, it tasted perfect.) After going in person, I was lucky to catch it at a quiet hour. The shop is very small, but it didn't feel cramped because it was just me & also the large windows create the illusion of a more open space. I spotted four seats in total (2 inside, 2 outside), however, perhaps there were more & I missed them? If there were only just a few more seats inside with a shared table, I think it would be a fun place to socialize with fellow caffeine addicts. ヘ(`・ω・)ノ The two baristas were very friendly & laid back. It was a nice atmosphere overall. A perfect little rest spot for when the heat is trying to claim your melted remains. (ㅅ´ ˘ `) Can I also say that I love the logo change? It went from '÷' to the dots also getting DIVIDEed. I have so much fun on my fridge matching the spliced bits of the stickers together to complete them.

Radmi was so kind and helpfull with me! Absolutely loved my experience at DIVIDE Coffee & Matcha! I came in specifically for a flat white, and it did not disappoint. The espresso was perfectly extracted—smooth, robust, and completely devoid of any burnt or bitter aftertaste. The milk was steamed to the exact right temperature with a beautifully micro-foamed texture, creating that classic velvety mouthfeel you look for in a top-tier flat white. Beyond the exceptional coffee, the atmosphere of the cafe is modern, clean, and very welcoming. The staff were super friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient with the order. Located conveniently on Ward Place in Colombo 7, it's a fantastic spot to catch up on some work or just relax. Highly recommend this place to any serious coffee lovers in Colombo. I'll definitely be back to try their matcha offerings next time

Hidden gem - Amazing little coffee shop and what I personally feel was the best matcha in Sri Lanka after searching for weeks along the South west coast! The Iced Blueberry Matcha with Oat Milk reminded me of home and the matcha’s we have in London. Ambience was great and service was great. If I’m ever back in Sri Lanka, I’ll definitely come back!
