Bagamoyo's first modern coffee shop, inside a new plaza in Ukuni

M&S Café opened in 2025 as the anchor restaurant of Maftah's Plaza, a commercial complex in Ukuni, a few minutes outside Bagamoyo's old stone town. It calls itself the town's first modern coffee shop, and the menu backs that up: espresso, granola bowls, crepes, milkshakes, and an "intercontinental dining" list running from breakfast plates to grilled dinners. Open 10am to 10pm, seven days a week.

Bagamoyo's eating scene has mostly meant beachside grills and hotel dining rooms, so a plaza café with actual espresso is new territory. The building also holds short-term rental apartments and commercial units, so the morning crowd mixes visiting business travelers with locals who came for the WiFi as much as the coffee.
