Meze and rakı on Sofyalı Sokak

Sofyalı 9 has held its corner on Sofyalı Sokak, at the centre of the Asmalımescit meyhane cluster, for more than two decades. The building behind it goes back to the late 1800s, and the format is the traditional one: cold and hot meze, grilled fish, rakı and tables that spill onto the lane in good weather.

It sits among a run of similar taverns but keeps a strong local following for the consistency of the kitchen. Weekend tables need booking.
