Akçaabat köfte and Black Sea cooking from a Trabzon name
Cemil Usta is one of the best-known names in Trabzon for Akçaabat köfte, the hand-chopped grilled meatballs the nearby town gave its name to. Beyond the köfte it works the Black Sea repertoire: fried and grilled hamsi, kuymak, sea bass and a regional breakfast spread.
It is a proper sit-down restaurant rather than a grill counter, geared to the full local menu. A dependable place to eat the coast's signature dishes in one sitting.
Good to know
- The Akçaabat köfte is the order; add kuymak if you want the cheesy cornmeal side.

The atmosphere was lovely, and the service was excellent. The stuffed grape leaves were absolutely delicious.

The regional meatloaf is delicious. The dessert is uniquely tasty for hazelnut lovers. But the must-have is the fish soup! The side dishes could have been more powerful but they offered some local side dishes in small portions for my trial. The service is great and the waiters are friendly. The building of the place is a historical mansion but the interior could not catch up with. I would definitely go again.
