A Mediterranean-leaning sister restaurant next door to the family's chip shop

Sydney's opened in May 2025 at 23 Monmouth Place, right next door to The Scallop Shell, run by the same family under Garry Rosser's wife Lisa. It's named after her father, and the menu moves away from the fish-and-chips format entirely into sharing plates built on British ingredients with a Mediterranean lean.

The building spans two floors up to a terrace that looks out over Bath's rooftops, open through the warmer months. It reads as a deliberate contrast to the chip shop next door rather than a repeat of it, built for a slower dinner instead of a quick counter order.

We recently had a lovely Sunday lunch here, we went for the sharer platter which was amazing! Lovely service too in a traditional pub, would highly recommend!

I was excited to try this restaurant as the reviews were brilliant; but sadly, I found the experience disappointing. The food was well cooked and fresh but lacked any depth of flavor. The garlic aoli accompaniment and cured trout starter were the only exceptions to this that my party noted Perhaps it was an off night, but I would be cautious in booking again, even though the service staff was lovely.

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit here! We sat on the rooftop bar which was stunning and had lunch followed by dessert all of which tasted amazing! The service was also great, lovely friendly staff. Looking forward to visiting again.

We had a great meal here last night with amazing, attentive service and delicious food in a relaxed but pristine heated rooftop setting. A complimentary glass of bubbles for my friend’s birthday was a wonderful touch. A must visit for Bath! Go check it out - we can’t wait to be back on the rooftop in the summer!

Great meal at Sydney’s! We had cod goujons and squid to start, followed by red mullet and lemon sole fillets (we forgot to take a pic of the mains)! Everything was delicious, and the fish was perfectly cooked! We were a bit worried we’d be cold on the covered terrace but there were lots of heaters and it made for a lovely atmosphere. Service was great too! We will definitely be back!
